LEXIKOLÓGIA SLOVENSKÉHO JAZYKA V UČITEĽSKEJ PRAXI
Resumé
This publication Lexicology of the Slovak Language in Teaching Practice is intended for students of the Expanding Studies (or qualification training to supplement and obtain the authorisation to teach the subject of Slovak language and literature), therefore the creators emphasised the application-educational aspect of the textbook. The title Selected Chapters from the Lexicology of the Slovak Language reflects the motivation of authors to base the publication upon the main topics of the lexical subsystem of the Slovak language, while the basic topics of lexical semantics, suprasemantics and derivatology.
The lexical subsystem of the Slovak language represents an important relational chain in the language system as well as in language education – its comprehensive acquisition and proper grasp by future teachers of the subject of Slovak Language and Literature means that they should be able to optimally identify the relations between the lexical level and other levels and units of the language system, the richly structured relations between various lexical units themselves and at the same time, the relations between the lexical plane and other linguistic and non-linguistic disciplines. Further, we have drawn attention to the dynamic processes in lexis, which relate to the enrichment of lexis through a number of procedures – the result is the richness and diversity of lexical units, which, among other units of the linguistic system, form undoubtedly the widest range of linguistic units and which are constantly being added to the national language while developing a network of relations between linguistic elements.
The textbook is structured into ten separate chapters, which include a summary of key terms, relevant literature and review questions for each chapter.
The textbook aims to provide students of the Expanding Studies (or qualification training to supplement and obtain the authorisation to teach the subject of Slovak language and literature) with a comprehensive knowledge of lexical issues in order to didactically and effectively apply linguistic knowledge in Slovak language education, as well as in other components of the subject (essay writing and literature). The textbook conveys selected topics from the lexicology of the Slovak language, but in no case is it a comprehensive publication reflecting lexical issues in detail, therefore it is assumed that when mastering the subsystem of lexicology of the Slovak language, a broader study of lexicology from various lexical disciplines is required, especially from publications referring to the given issue in the list of literature at the end of each chapter. These are primarily the sources on which we have based the design of the teaching material. At the same time, the textbook reflects the latest scientific research results in the field of synchronic and diachronic lexicology, comprehensively and clearly captures the vocabulary breakdown in the constant process of dynamisation, and at the same time, the textbook refers to current entries in various lexicographical works. The textbook refers to original lexicological works of both domestic and foreign literature in order to give a broad overview of the richly structured relationships in the vast vocabulary of the Slovak language.
